Allen Hughes will direct the film – which is expected to have a budget of over $ 80 million – about the legendary soul singer, and he will produce the film alongside Dr Dre, Jimmy Iovine and Andrew Lazar.
Hughes told Deadline: “It’s so personal to me.
“When I made my first movie with my brother, we were lucky enough to have ‘What’s Going On’ in the ‘Menace 2 Society’ trailer, and it was a game-changer by upping the marketing of it. movie.
“Every single one of my films, with the exception of the period film ‘From Hell’, contained Marvin Gaye, and I have always connected with him.
“It’s the artist of the artist, with that ethereal voice that comes from the sky.
“There were a lot of great artists, and then Marvin, in his own way.
“When you listen, to a certain extent, you feel like you’ve read a novel.

Gaye’s songs will feature in the film as his estate and Motown are part of the project.

Gaye’s widow, Jan Gaye, is the film’s executive producer.
Producers will start looking for an actor to play the music icon, who was shot dead by his father in 1984 just a day before his 45th birthday.
Production on the film is expected to begin next year, with bosses considering a 2023 release date.
Gaye has a catalog of many hits, including “What’s Going On”, “Sexual Healing”, “Let’s Get It On”, “Ain’t That Peculiar”, “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)”, and “I heard it through the vineyard”.
As well as showing how his music has been an integral part of popular culture for decades, the film will also touch on the lives of the women who influenced his career and his relationship with his father.
It was initially revealed in 2018 that Dre was making a movie about Gaye, following a series of unsuccessful attempts by other people to bring his life story to the big screen.
Gaye’s family confirmed a few days later that discussions were underway with the rapper.
His son Marvin Gaye III said at the time: “I love and respect Dr Dre very much, and we are currently in talks about his participation in the film.”
