Jessica Simpson reflects on her ex-husband Nick Lachey’s MTV show and reveals if she would return to reality TV

It’s not much earlier than Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which aired on MTV from 2003 to 2005. The reality series followed the marriage between two of the biggest names in the music industry at the time: Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees. In the years since its cancellation, the couple have divorced and moved on to other things and other projects, but their show has retained cult status in popular culture. Simpson now reflects on her and her ex-husband’s fame and reveals whether she would return to the world of reality TV.

When the show aired all those years ago, Jessica Simpson wasn’t so kindly mocked by the audience as another “dumb blonde.” And it culminated in a frenzy with his infamous “Chicken…by the Sea” line in one episode. Yet while appearing on The truththe former reality TV star was surprisingly candid about how she had no bitterness towards this time in her life, saying:

I don’t regret it at all. If anything, it was excellent television. It was very real, and Nick and I had a lot of fun. We have to do a lot of things that we wouldn’t do. I don’t like camping. There were definitely times when it was like, ‘Oh, just put Jessica out here in the desert, and you’ll have good TV.’ … There is a lesson in everything.

She continued that she was “so young” during Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica(being in her early twenties at the time) and didn’t yet have a “grip” on who she was as a person. But all that has apparently changed over the past 20 years. the Dukes of Hazzard The actress actually created a billion-dollar retail brand, had three kids with her second husband, Eric Johnson, and embarked on a truly impressive weight loss journey in the meantime. So, with all this camera-worthy content at her fingertips, would Jessica Simpson consider picking up another reality series at this point? She says:

Phew, no. Well, the reality is so different now, which is a funny thing to say. Ours was actually very real and very authentic, perhaps because it was one of the first. But we had a pack of mics from the moment we woke up until the moment we fell asleep. These days they allocated shooting days and that kind of stuff and that would make it a lot easier.

The businesswoman hinted in 2018 that she would never return to the game of constant shooting – based on how she herself was treated in the public eye. And she’s right that reality TV has come a long way since the days of Newly weds and The real world franchise. The new concept of “scripts” and carefully crafted scenes or journeys for drama frequently prompt accusations that the shows are actually more scripted in nature.

However, Jessica Simpson is still superficially tied to reality TV dominance, whether she likes it or not. She recently shared on the daytime talk show that her 9-year-old daughter, Max, is actually best friends with North, the 8-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. The former MTV star said she was confused when her husband Eric coached North for basketball and there were no cameras around to document him for the family’s new Hulu show called The Kardashiansas it would have been in Simpson’s heyday.

Apparently, she even bluntly asked the mother of four – who was recently embroiled in a big social media beef with her ex-husband Kanye West – “How the hell do you do that? She added that it helps that Kim Kardashian is “really open” and “awesome”, as well as being a “beast” and an “incredible mother”.

Maybe then we could see a Jessica Simpson cameo on The Kardashians (which is streaming now with a Hulu subscription). But clearly, any other reality show prospects aren’t in the cards — as the star is officially retired in that regard.
