Golden Discs will open a new ‘concept store’ at its flagship Dundrum town center location in Dublin on Saturday.
The company said the new store format will be dedicated to “pop culture super fans and lovers.” It will stock a range of products including posters, books, bags, stationery and merchandise from Marvel, DC, the Lucas film, Game of Thrones and Harry Potter, among others.
There will also be a range of licensed apparel including t-shirts, hoodies and baseball caps from movies and TV shows.
The store will also feature pop culture merchandise and specialty collectibles and figurines from the world of film and entertainment, as well as games and growing subgenres like Manga and Pokemon.
“We have seen a huge increase in demand for merchandise over the past few years and now is the time for a dedicated store to serve this growing market,” said Stephen Fitzgerald, Managing Director of Golden Discs.
“For many, the pop culture product is an impulse gift buy, but we also cater to requests from super fans and enthusiasts looking for the coolest fresh produce and must-have collectibles.”
Separately, Golden Discs is also holding a “Record Store Day,” which focuses on vinyl, at all of its stores on Saturday. The event will also be hosted online from Sunday.
Dundrum branches, the Vinyl Lounge on Patrick’s Street in Cork, Eyre Square in Galway and Jervis Street in Dublin are the main locations for vinyl records, the band said.
Golden Discs is offering a 20% discount on all legacy releases this week, but online only.
“For fans of Irish music, U2’s 1982 single A Celebration will receive a 12-inch 40th anniversary reissue, featuring two previously unreleased recordings,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
“Another classic celebrates the 40th anniversary of its original release: lead singer Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy’s 1982 solo album, The Philip Lynott Album, is newly mastered and released on 180g vinyl.
“And to celebrate and commemorate the late Dolores O’Riordan, the Cranberries are releasing Remembering Dolores on vinyl, a 2LP version from the 2021 digital collection that includes three bonus tracks, a must for fans of the band.”
