This former branch of the Commonwealth Bank stands proudly on Main Rainbow Street in northwest Victoria (68 kilometers north of Warracknabeal).
Downstairs you will find a safe, office, kitchen and toilet while upstairs there are two bedrooms and a living room with open fireplace.
The bank vacated the building in April this year after decades of occupation. Potential future uses could include vacation accommodation or a family home, according to listing agent Rebecca Peterson of Elders Horsham.
The property needs “a lot of work” before it can be occupied again, as the upstairs area has not been occupied for several decades.
But that hasn’t turned off a number of different buyers who had already inquired about the property, including those who intend to convert it to Airbnb or office space.
“[Under the current zoning] it can be a house or a business – it doesn’t have to be one way or the other, ”Ms. Peterson said.
“You have that potential to make it what you want it to be.”
Ms Peterson has not been able to confirm the age of the property, but records indicate it dates back to at least the early 1920s.
The property is currently on sale via expressions of interest, ending July 21, with a price guide posted of $ 145,000 to $ 159,500.
Originally the fire brigade hotel and later used in various retail activities, this 1800s building in Clunes – the heritage gold village 30 minutes north of Ballarat – is looking for a new owner ready to take care of the tools.
Although the property was originally built with an upstairs residence, listing agent John Stevenson of Ballarat Real Estate said future uses would likely be “strictly commercial”.
The space would be ideal for a retailer or cafe operator, or even an art gallery.
Mr Stephenson said he had witnessed a recent surge in demand from Melburnians looking to establish a retail presence in regional villages in Victoria.
“It goes with residential movements – people were moving through COVID last year and we’ve been very busy this year. I think commerce is catching up right now,” he said.
Introducing the market for the first time in 80 years, the Black Snake Inn in Granton, Tasmania (a suburb of Hobart) has a lot of history to tell.
Fall Real Estate’s listing agent John Soundy said the long unlicensed inn could be turned into a family home or tourist operation.
“We had a huge interest, with people wanting to restore it to a house, people who wanted to turn it into a distillery,” Soundry said.
Any plans to alter the Gothic-style building and develop the surrounding land would be subject to council and heritage approval, with the property listed as being significant for its association with one of the earliest ferry crossings in the area.
“It needs a substantial renovation, there is no argument about it,” Mr. Soundry said.
The property was acquired by the current owner, who used it as a family home, off the market over 60 years ago and the last time it was listed on the stock exchange was over 80 years ago .
In addition to the hostel, there is a three bedroom brick house and a disused stable.
Mr Soundry indicated that new buyers should be aware that sections of the property may be the subject of acquisition by the Government of Tasmania as part of nearby bridge work and that, for this reason, it is not was unable to provide a price guide.
He said he was currently in talks with government officials to determine the nature of any acquisition.
It is marketed through an expression of interest campaign with no current closing date.
Erected in 1924, the former commercial bank of Barmedman, NSW (halfway between the Riverina towns of West Wyalong and Temora) occupies a prime location.
The property has already been converted into a two-story residence, but may need further renovations to restore it to its former glory.
“He still has the safe and other items that represent it was a bank,” said listing agent Danielle Smith of Miller & James.
The large ground floor space lends itself to use as a restaurant or reception center, subject to council approval, while the three bedroom upstairs section could be used as a family home or B&B.
It is on the market for $ 320,000.
